Meiwa in Mie prefecture is an elegant place where the princess “Saio,” who served Ise-jingu, lives, and is called “Saigu (Saiku),” and she stayed at “Nonomiya” in Sagano, Kyoto to cleanse herself before being dispatched to Saiku.
Once upon a time, the Saio system continued for 660 years for the nomiya used by Saio, and then it was abolished due to the turmoil of the world during the Northern and Southern Dynasties.
Then, the palace where Saio stayed to cleanse himself fell into ruins, and Saiku came to be called “Nonomiya” at some point because of its abandoned appearance, and it still remains in the town under the name of the historic site “Nonomiya Ruins.”
Set on the ruins of Nonomiya where Saio once purified himself, the Noh performance “Nomiya,” where the worlds of the Tale of Genji in classical Heian literature intersect, will be performed at Saiku Heian no Mori, a full-scale restored building from the Heian period.

This time, as a special performance, we are preparing a plan “Matsushika” where you can enjoy watching while eating and drinking, and not only an explanation after the lecture by Kanze Yoshimasa, the holder of the intangible cultural property and Kanze ryu Shitai, after the lecture, but also experience Noh costumes.
If you would like Matsushiki, please apply from the Matsushiki plan page.
